Moeckel, Physical Therapist
Eugene Hunt Moeckel passed away on Monday February 13, 2017 at his home in
Deerfield. He was 82 years old. Wilson was the son of Martin Moeckel and
Margaret Moeckel (Kimball). Wilson was born in Malden Massachusetts in 1934.
graduated from Boston University in 1956 with a B.S. degree in Physical
Therapy. He was a self-employed physical therapist for 60 years. During his
career, Wilson was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, numerous
hospitals and nursing homes, Visiting Nurse Associations in Massachusetts and
Vermont, and owned a private practice in Holyoke, MA. Wilson also served as a
physical therapist for the US Army Reserve Medical Corps from 1957-1966, He was
a First Lieutenant.
his wife Thelma were married June 28, 1956 and were married 58 years. They
enjoyed traveling the world. They visited Curacao, England, France, Italy,
Malta, Greece, India, China, Thailand (twice), Turkey (twice), the Caribbean,
Dominican Republic, Portugal, Morocco, Spain, Jordan, and Egypt. Wilson Moeckel
was particularly enamored with Egypt, its people, culture, and heritage. Wilson
visited Egypt fourteen times and dreamed of living there in his retirement.
In addition to
a passion for travel, Wilson was an avid collector of antiques and curiosities.
At various times he collected oriental rugs, poison and pharmaceutical bottles,
signs, railroad tie nails, and baseball memorabilia, His two most prized and
extensive collections focused on World War II memorabilia and National
survived by his wife Thelma Emily Moeckel, a daughter Dr. Stephanie A. Moeckel
Cole, and his six grandchildren: Atticus Moeckel Cole, Andrew Moeckel, Camille
Moeckel, Christopher Moeckel, Peter Moeckel, and Charis Moeckel Cole. He is
predeceased by his sons Brian M. Moeckel (died 1997) and Dr. Bruce H. Moeckel
