- Wanda L. (Norwood) (Zimnowski) Bridges, 91, of South Deerfield, died in
Sunderland, November 27, 2014 after a brief struggle with brain cancer.
Born in Biddeford, Maine, February 28, 1923, Wanda was
the second oldest of nine children, born to Martha Jo (Emmons) and Ralph C.
Norwood. The daughter of a lighthouse keeper, Wanda spent much of her youth
residing at Boston Light on Little Brewster Island in Boston Harbor.
She graduated in 1942 from Hingham High School and, at
one time worked as a ""Rosie the Riveter"" at Quincy
Shipyard, Quincy, MA.
Wanda, known as ""Mrs. Ski,"" was
an assistant librarian at Greenfield Middle School for 21 years, retiring in
1990. Always a grateful optimist, she was rarely without a smile and a kind
word of encouragement. She was dedicated to her family and enjoyed sewing, the
ocean, travel and the Red Sox.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Richard
Bridges of South Deerfield; sisters Georgia Emerson and Lila Fay Achor, both of
Boothbay Harbor, ME; daughters Carol Griss of Sunderland and Pamela Krause
(husband Bill) of Henniker, N.H.; grandsons Phil Dickinson (wife Melissa) and
Justin Dickinson (wife Sharon) of NC; three great-grandsons of NC;
step-daughter Dayle Best (husband Gary) of South Deerfield; four
step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. She was also
""Auntie Wanda"" to many, many nieces and nephews and
great-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Edward E.
Zimnowski in 1960; stepson Rich Bridges; son-in-law J.D. Griss; five brothers,
Bruce, Gail, Ralph II, Bobby and Dexter; one sister, Priscilla Reece and
several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m.
until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. in the Wrisley Funeral Home
Chapel with Pastor Steven Wilco officiating.
