Victor Waryas, 99, of South Deerfield went to join the love of his life “the wife”, Rose (Wysk) Waryas, in his eternal home on Monday, February 12, 2018.  He lived a full and fulfilling life. He loved and was loved dearly by family and friends. Vic had a sharp wit and keen sense of humor throughout his entire life.

Victor was born on December 18, 1918 in Montague MA to Francis Waryas and Kathryn (Boncyk) Waryas. Vic was raised in “The Patch” and attended school in Turners Falls. He graduated from Vaughn Barber School in Boston MA and apprenticed at the Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston before he was drafted into army. He served in the army during World War II where he was a Colonel’s chauffer as well as a barber. He was in the European Theatre serving in Persia (what is now Iran and Iraq). Returning from the war he worked at a barber shop on Chapman Street in Greenfield before opening Vic’s Barber Shop in South Deerfield in 1954. Vic barbered at least one day a week until he was 95!

Victor had been active in the community. He was a member of the Lions Club serving as President for two years. He also belonged to the White Eagles Association and was involved at St. Stanislaus Church serving on various committees and assisting with Sunday collections.

Vic enjoyed spending time with his family, UConn girls’ basketball, going to Mohegan, dining at Fishtales, and playing cribbage with friends and relatives. He was proud to be a veteran and was grateful for the VA services, especially the visiting nurses. Vic also appreciated and enjoyed the excellent care he received from “the girls” from O’Connell Care at Home.

Vic is survived by his son Victor Peter Waryas of Lebanon NH, his daughters Teresa Gerry and her husband Harper of Jekyll Island Georgia, and Rosemary Salisbury and her husband Bill of Braintree, MA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Victor Peter Jr. and his wife Bethany, Marieclaude and Starr Waryas, Ashley Gerry, and Johanna, Elise and Veronica Salisbury. Vic was blessed with three great-grandchildren, Sam, Sophia and Madeline- who aptly called him “Jadju the Great”! He also enjoyed the company of friends and extended family including frequent visitor and “cribbage buddy” Paul Fisk, husband of his beloved niece Kathi (Waryas) Fisk.

Services and a celebration of his life will begin with a Liturgy of Christian Burial in Holy Family Church, Sugarloaf Street, South Deerfield at a date and time to be announced.  Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Wrisley Funeral Home, South Deerfield, has charge of arrangements.
