Hatfield— Shaun Michael Leary, age 70 of Hatfield, died peacefully at the Hospice Fisher Home in Amherst on June 4th, 2017 after a long battle with kidney cancer.  A true warrior to the end.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, warrior, COO, world-class angler, comic and loyal friend to all that knew him.  He will be lovingly honored and held dear by his wife, Sandra of 47 years, two children: Ryan Leary and Michelle Rockett, daughter-in-law, Allison, two grandchildren: Addison & Brice, and brother, Tim.

Born June 13, 1946 in Springfield, MA to Arthur & Mildred (Pepin) Leary.  Graduate of Easthampton High school and Northampton Commercial College, earning his BA at American International College. Married August 30, 1969 to his deepest love Sandra Michalowski.

Shaun served proudly in Vietnam as 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army’s storied 75th Ranger Regiment, an elite airborne unit within the U.S. Army Special Operations Command, where he was awarded several medals including the Bronze Star.  He also proudly served time with the 2nd Armored Division (Hell on Wheels) at Fort Hood, Tx.  No stranger to danger, he approached life’s challenges with the same rigor and confidence as he learned in the military.  Upon release from the Army, Shaun was hired for a night loading position by Leader Beverage of Brattleboro, VT, working his way up to President/COO and board member during his 40 plus year career.

Shaun was an avid fly fisherman, master at tying flies and took yearly trips to Newfoundland for the salmon run. He loved woodworking, gardening and took up caning chairs in his last years.  He will always be remembered for his loyalty, charismatic way with people, his sharp sense of humor, quick wit, and for the deep love of his family.
