Robert (Bob) Ogrodnik

Robert (Bob) Ogrodnik of South Deerfield, Ma died at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield on Monday, February 5th, 2018. Fondly known by family and friends as "Homer", he was born on 11/08/1938 in Chicopee.


In 2017, he attended his 60th class reunion from Chicopee High School. Upon graduation he had developed a keen interest for photography and attended a school to fulfill that passion. He became a travelling photographer, doing weddings and family portraits in department stores. Several years later he became employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Department of Environmental Management as a swimming pool maintainer and was a union steward. Due to health issues, he retired from the state early and having a solid work ethic, was hired as a part-time custodian at area post offices.


Bob married Janet Bagdon on 10/05/1968 and spent their entire married life in South Deerfield. He kept a beautiful yard and garden and was also often seen mowing on his tractor. In their early years of marriage, Bob and Janet were also avid snowmobile enthusiasts.

He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Catherine (Szelag) Ogrodnik, in addition to a brother, George. He leaves his wife Janet of 49 years, son Jason, and daughter-in-law Emma. He also leaves a brother-in-law Thomas Leavitt, sister-in-law Katie Matuszko and her husband Ron and brother-in-law Robert Bagdon and his wife Julie. He also leaves several nieces, a nephew, and two great nieces.


Bob's major past time that he shared with his son was NASCAR racing where he was often present at the track catching the best photos. He would also photograph boat races. He and Jason shared hobbies of collecting baseball cards and coins as well. He would attend many local polka dances with his wife Janet where he didn't dance much but loved listening to the music.


Calling hours will be held Sunday, February 25th, 4 - 6 p.m. at Wrisley Funeral Home in South Deerfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society, 163 Montague Road, Leverett, Ma 01054.
