Richard Delmont “Trix” Hicks Sr., 65, of Shutesbury, MA passed
away peacefully with family by his side on February 16th, 2017. Trix was born
December 24th, 1951 in Montague. He attended Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls
and graduated from Mohawk Trail Regional High School. He then served as a Fire
Control Technician in the United States Navy. Following his honorable discharge,
he moved to Amherst and worked for Pioneer Valley Cablevision where he met the
love of his life, future wife and mother of his five children, Lynda Johnson.
Trix worked in the cable television field for his entire career, most recently
for Charter (Time Warner) Cable in Orange.
In addition to working for cable, Trix was an amazing
“shadetree” mechanic and especially loved working on older cars like his 1964
GTO. He could fix almost anything and was frequently found fixing things for
his family and friends. He would “give you the shirt off his back” and was
known for helping anyone in need.
Trix was a member of the American Legion Post #172 in Orange.
He was also a long time member of the Shutesbury Athletic Club where he served
on the Board of Directors. He had many friends he cared about so very much.
Besides his beloved wife Lynda, Trix is survived by his
adoring children Olivia, Richard Jr., Christopher, Stephen, and Dylan Hicks of
Shutesbury, his father Leslie (Joe) R. Hicks of Greenfield, and siblings Linda
Shaw and her husband Bernie of Greenfield, Dr. Joseph Ralph Hicks and his wife
Norma Dawn of Wendell, Dr. Lebelle Hicks of South China, ME, Irene Olson and
her husband William of Johnstown, PA, Dr. Bruno Hicks and his wife Linda of
Westminster, Susan Bouchard and her husband Richard of Jefferson, ME, and
Charlie Hicks and his partner Wendy of Augusta, ME, as well as numerous nephews
and nieces. He was predeceased by his mother Anne Mildred (Gough) Hicks and his
eldest sister Dr. Leslie (Hicks) Shaw.
Calling hours will be held Friday, February 24th at Wrisley
Funeral Home in South Deerfield from 6-8pm with a small service to follow. A
military burial will be held at a future date.
