Amherst, MA — Phyllis Dzenis, formerly of South Deerfield, passed peacefully on January 15, 2022, at The Arbors in Amherst, MA. She was 93. Phyllis was born in South Deerfield, on July 14, 1928, to the late Vincent and Helen (Hrapkowski) Kowalski. After graduating from Deerfield High School, she married Andrew E. Dzenis, who predeceased her on August 18, 2018. They were married 70 years.

Phyllis enjoyed antiquing throughout Western Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire and had a small antique store of her own. For several years, she volunteered at the cafeteria at the South Deerfield Elementary School. She also helped prepare and sell the best local asparagus, grown in the family's nearby fields.

Her passion was caring for family, cooking, listening to Polka music on Sunday mornings, and listening to Red Sox games. Her family will miss her delicious perogies, golumpki, potato pancakes, apple and pecan pies, and homemade raisin bread. Her quick wit always made them laugh.

Phyllis leaves her daughter Paula Healey and her husband Tim of West Hartford, CT; son, David Dzenis and his wife Mary of Londonderry, NH; three grandchildren: Jonathan Healey and his wife Colleen of Washington, DC, Kristen Rice and her husband Peter of Silver Spring, MD, and Katherine Dzenis and her partner, William Pugh of Londonderry, NH; and three great-grandchildren: Parker, Graham, and Bennett.

She was predeceased by her sisters Irene, Olga, Wanda, and Josephine, and brothers Paul, Max, John, and Henry.

There was a private family service on Friday, January 21, 2022, at the Wrisley Funeral Home in South Deerfield. The family requests donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to Hospice of The Fisher Home (www.fisherhome.org) in memory of Phyllis.

The family extends their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Arbors and Fisher Home for their extraordinary care and support. A special thanks to Brenda, Connie, Doreen and Wendy at The Arbors and Debbie at The Fisher Home
