She was born on July 25, 1918 to George and Ina Canning. She married Charles D. Marcoullier on June 30, 1941. They celebrated a long and happy marriage until his death in 2008. She was predeceased by 3 siblings, Marion Kentfield, Verian Graves, and Raymond Canning.

Muriel is survived by 2 sons Charles, Jr. and his wife Monique of McMinnville, Oregon, William P., of Homestead, Florida, and a daughter-in-law, Christine of Greenfield, Mass. Two grandchildren, B.J. Marcoullier and his wife Chrissy, of Rumson, New Jersey, and Laura Marcoullier of McMinnville, Oregon. She was blessed with 3 great-grandsons, Kole, Charlie, and Connor. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

After graduating froom Westfield State College in 1939, she began her teaching career in a one room school in Conway, Mass. She taught in Conway for 2 years; then married and raised her two children. In 1953, she resumed her teaching career by starting the first Kindergarten in the South Deerfield Grammar School. After watching many generations pass through her door, she retired in 1981 and moved to Ft. Myers, Florida.

Muriel loved teaching and she loved her students. She would often fondly reminisce of her days in South Deerfield and in the classroom.

Proud of her New England Yankee heritage, Muriel maintained a stoic and hard-working attitude throughout her life. And although she prided herself on a “can do” attitude and independent spirit, she was most proud of the love of her family and friends.

She will be greatly missed.
