Myers, Florida – Muriel Canning
Marcoullier, 94, formally of South Deerfield, Mass., passed away on May 22,
2013, in Ft. Myers, Florida. She was born on July
25, 1918 to George and Ina Canning. She married Charles D. Marcoullier on June
30, 1941. They celebrated a long and happy marriage until his death in 2008.
She was predeceased by 3 siblings, Marion Kentfield, Verian Graves, and Raymond
survived by 2 sons Charles, Jr. and his wife Monique of McMinnville, Oregon,
William P., of Homestead, Florida, and a daughter-in-law, Christine of
Greenfield, Mass. Two grandchildren, B.J. Marcoullier and his wife Chrissy, of
Rumson, New Jersey, and Laura
Marcoullier of McMinnville, Oregon. She was blessed with 3 great-grandsons,
Kole, Charlie, and Connor. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
graduating froom Westfield State College in 1939, she began her teaching career
in a one room school in Conway, Mass. She taught in Conway for 2 years; then married and raised
her two children. In 1953, she resumed her teaching career by starting the
first Kindergarten in the South
School. After watching many generations pass
through her door, she retired in 1981 and moved to Ft. Myers, Florida.
Muriel loved teaching and she loved her students. She would
often fondly reminisce of her days in South Deerfield
and in the classroom.
Proud of her
New England Yankee heritage, Muriel maintained a stoic and hard-working
attitude throughout her life. And although she prided herself on a “can do”
attitude and independent spirit, she was most proud of the love of her family
