Mildred Elizabeth Stowell Horn

Greenfield, MA – Mildred Elizabeth Stowell Horn passed away on February 6, 2018 at the age of 93. She was born in Windham, VT on August 12, 1924, the second of eleven children born to Leonard and Ruth (Call) Stowell. She was raised in Windham and attended local school, but left after eighth grade to support herself.


Working in Bernardston, MA, she met and married George Peters with whom she had five children. After raising her children, she finished her education and began working in the insurance industry. While living in Windsor, CT and working as an insurance underwriter, she met and married Eli Stuart. After his death, she continued working as an underwriter in Charlotte, NC and then retired to Jacksonville, FL where she met and married William Horn. She was an excellent cook and receiving a box of homemade candy from her was a real treat. She had a beautiful garden every summer for as long as she was able, she refinished furniture to look like new and she enjoyed finding bargains at yard sales.


Mildred is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Gary and Nanci Lashway Peters, her son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Dawn Peters, her daughter and son-in-law Lorraine and Robert Naprovnick, her son and daughter-in-law Lawrence and Debra Peters and her daughter Deborah Peters, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild as well as four siblings; Joyce Mattson, Norman Stowell, Beverly Parker, Virginia Stowell and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased be husbands George Peters, Eli Stuart and William Horn, her grandson Branden Peters and sisters Doris Raitenan, Phyllis Amsden, Helen Farrar, Lois Severance, Marylin Schuster and Sharon Geary.
