RICHMOND, Va. - Mary Frances (Sullivan) Wisnieski, 82, of Spotsylvania, VA, died on July 12 at VCU Medical Center surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Stamford, CT, on June 25, 1930, the daughter of John L. and Theresa (DeVecchis) Sullivan. Her family moved to Turners Falls, MA, where she attended school and played in "The Patch."
In 1948, Mary was married to William J. Wisnieski of South Deerfield, MA, where they raised their four children. Upon retirement, Mary and her husband moved to Fredericksburg, VA, to be near their children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, William; her infant son, Peter, and her brother, James Sullivan.
Mary leaves four children: Kathleen Burke, and husband Richard of Ashland, VA, Christine Wisnieski of Richmond, VA, Eileen Sullivan of Fredericksburg, VA, and William Wisnieski, and wife Monica, of Hadley, MA; five grandchildren: Kelly Koch Jones, Theresa Koch Walker, Rachel Kube Goodloe, Will Wisnieski, Nick Wisnieski and seven great-grandchildren: Zachary, Zophia, Julia, Hannah, Michael, Haley and John Jamison. Mary is also survived by her brother, John Sullivan of Northampton, MA, and her sister, Diana Roberts of Ukiah, Calif. She also leaves behind several beloved nieces and nephews.
Mary was a loving and doting grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, movies, crossword puzzles, current events, and her cat "Sparky."
Mary also had many wonderful and caring friends at Asbury Manor in Spotsylvania, VA.
A memorial service will be held at the Asbury Manor Community Center on Friday, July 20, at 1:45 p.m. A Mass will also be held at a later date in South Deerfield, MA, where she will be interred.
Arrangements in South Deerfield are under the direction of Wrisley Funeral Home.
