Mark L. Maroni, 63, of Gill passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital on Tuesday February 2, 2021 following a battle with leukemia with his wife Debbie and best friend Tim Elliott by his side. Mark was born in Framingham, MA the son of Gloria (Beadle) Maroni and the late Lawrence Maroni. He was the husband of Debbie (Matysiewicz) Maroni.

In addition to Debbie and Gloria, Mark will be missed by his sister Lisa of Sudbury, brother David of Wayland and brother Chris of Sudbury. Mark also leaves his mother-in-law Nellie Matysiewicz, brother-in-law Ed Matysiewicz, sister-in-law Sue Matysiewicz and friend Richard Bergeron. Mark will also be missed by his best friend (and brother) of over 50 years Tim Elliott, his friend Billy Munroe and his four-legged son Scotty. Mark was predeceased by his father Lawrence in 2009.

Mark was employed at UMass in the custodial department. Prior to UMass Mark worked as a shipper/receiver.

Mark was born with a green thumb. He had many gardens over the years and when he and Debbie bought their home, he made a huge garden. Mark especially loved to grow his tomatoes which Debbie made into sauce...with Mark's guidance of course. When there were extra vegetables, Mark would always give them away so others could enjoy them too.

He enjoyed fishing, whether it was deep sea fishing with Tim and Billy or brook fishing with Debbie. Mark loved to be outdoors. He often sat out on his porch just enjoying the day watching his four-legged son Scotty playing in the yard.

Mark had the best sense of humor and always had a smile on his face. He had a joke for every occasion ... sometimes they were so bad all you could do was groan but they always made you smile.

A celebration of Mark's life will take place at a later time. The date, time and location will be announced. Arrangements are under the direction of Wrisley Funeral Home in South Deerfield. Expressions of sympathy available at www.wrisleyfuneralhome.com.

We would like to thank the staff at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Cooley Dickinson Hospital Cancer Center for all the love and caring they showed Mark. Love to you all. In memory of Mark, make someone laugh by telling a joke, plant a garden, or eat a tomato warmed by the sun.
