Linda Ford Parker Obituary

Linda Ford Parker passed away on October 23, 2018 at the age of 66. Born on January 17, 1962 to Alfred Ford and Marion (Day) Ford in Portsmouth, Virginia, she was the first of six children. She was raised in Charlton, MA and later moved to Penfield, NY where she graduated from Penfield High School. She went on to the University of Massachusetts, where she graduated with a degree in Psychology and met her husband of 42 years, Richard Parker.

Linda spent her career educating and helping others.  She first worked in mental health services and later in public education.  She was a teacher and administrator at a sheltered workshop for developmentally disabled adults in Pittsfield, MA.  Later she worked at the Deerfield Elementary School where she was a friendly and memorable face to many as a copy room manager and lunch room monitor. Linda was also active as a board member of The United ARC, a Registrar of Voters, member of South Deerfield Women’s Club, Cub Scout den mother, and was involved in many other community affairs.

Those closest to Linda will remember her unwavering commitment to her family, including four children and four grandchildren, of whom she was incredibly proud. During her children’s youth, you could always find her on the sidelines of sporting events loudly cheering them on. As they grew into adults and moved to the city, she cherished their visits and time spent talking over one of her delicious home cooked meals. Linda was an avid reader and gardener. Part of her legacy includes her famous pickles, chili sauce and strawberry jam. She absolutely loved to travel, especially to Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and the Caribbean islands, where she spent her final days. Linda will be dearly missed by all who loved her.

Linda is survived by her husband, Rick and their children - Kelly Parker Hussey and her husband John of Townsend, MA; Daniel Parker and his wife Bridget of Winchester, MA; Michael Parker and his wife Liz of Melrose, MA; and Erin Parker of Chelsea, MA. She also leaves behind four grandchildren - Tristan, Josselyn, Evelyn, and Lucas, as well as five siblings - Penny Combs and husband Vincent; Holly Mannchen; Barrett Ford and wife Angela; Kim Guest and husband Bill; and Judy Baumhauer and husband Ted; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
