Lena J. (Gesiorek)
Garbiel, 86 of Garbiel Farms in Montague, also known as “Auntie Lena”, “Ciocia
Honey” passed peacefully at Baystate Medical Center
with her family by her side on August 8, 2014.
Born in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph
and Mary (Wanczyk) Gesiorek.
Lena was educated in the
Northampton Schools and graduated in 1948.
Lena met the love of her life, Walter Garbiel at a Polish Dance
Hall. On December 21, 1949, she married Walter at
the St. Valentines Church in Northampton.
Lena enjoyed being a
farmers wife. She provided home cooked
meals for all the workers on the farm when she wasn’t out in the fields. Lena enjoyed gardening, canning, feeding her birds and
chipmunks and listening to Polish and Country music.
Survivors include her son, Karl Garbiel and his partner
Carol Dwyer; Daughter, Mary Gardner, Grandchildren Patrick and Natalie Gardner
and her companion Clifford Spatcher, and son-in-law Mark Greene. Her
sisters Katherine Buckowski and Martha
Rogaleski, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Lena was predeceased by her
husband Walter, Son Walter Jr, and
daughter Anna. Her dogs Spotsie and Max, sisters Victoria Osip, Nellie Zuraw,
Nora Wziontko, and brothers Louis, Joseph and John Gesiorek.
Calling hours will be held at Wrisley Funeral Home on
Monday August 11th 6-8
pm. Funeral Services Tuesday 9:15am at Wrisley Funeral Home, with a
Requieum Mass at Holy Name of Jesus Church celebrated by
Rev. Randolph Calvo on Tuesday August 12th at 10:00am.
