NORTHAMPTON – Kathleen C. Sharkey, 87, passed away Monday, January 13, 2014 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.  Kathleen was affectionately known by many friends and family as “A.K.”.

Born July 4, 1926, she was the daughter of John E. and Ellen (Claire) Sharkey.

She graduated from Deerfield High School where she was an outstanding athlete and attended Russell Sage College in Troy, New York.

She was employed for many years at Framingham Trust and the accounting firm Arthur J. Tedesco & Sons in Boston.

In her earlier years she was a church organist, enjoyed traveling, playing golf and gardening.  In her later years, she was a communicant of the former St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church in Northampton where she also volunteered.

She was always eager to engage in a good conversation and to learn something new.   She was an independent woman with a sense of adventure.  While she never had children of her own, she was the fun aunt who was always ready to take her nieces and nephews on one of her many adventures.

She was predeceased by siblings, John E. Sharkey, Jr. and Eleanor S. White and dear family friend, Anne R. McNally.

A.K. will be missed by her niece Mary Ellen Maynard and her husband Clark of Conway; nephews, Donald “Skip” White and his wife Sandra Misiun of Greenfield, David White and his wife Christine of South Deerfield and James White and his wife Tammy of Northfield; great nieces Jocelyn Potter and her husband Andrew of Hadley, Stephanie White of Conway, and Kelly White of Irving, TX; great-nephews David and Daniel White of South Deerfield and great-great-niece and nephews Margaret, Nicholas and Elliott Potter of Hadley.
