SOUTH DEERFIELD – Julia (Julie) G. Sinclair passed away peacefully on August 7, 2017 at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield following a brief illness. Julie was born in Montague on July 30, 1923 and was the daughter of MarciAnna and Michael Green. She grew up in Turners Falls and Greenfield and was most recently was a resident of South Deerfield. She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1941.


She married John Sinclair in 1946 and lived on Elm Street in Greenfield where they raised their seven children. She worked at the former New England Telephone Company on Church Street (where she met her husband) as a switchboard operator from 1944 until her retirement in 1986. After retirement, she started her second career as office administrator and bookkeeper for Mal Cichy Plumbing & Heating in South Deerfield where she continued to work until April of this year. Julie was known for her strong work ethic and was sharp as a tack.


Her hobbies included gardening, traveling, reading, puzzles and regular visits Mohegan Sun with her son-in-law and gambling pal Mal. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and was a diehard Red Sox fan.

Julie was predeceased by her husband John (Jack) on September17, 1972 and her son John (Jay) who died on March 29, 1999. She was also predeceased by her brothers Frank and Joseph and her sister Amelia Churchill. She is survived by Jeffrey Sinclair and his partner Audrey Ward of Chester, NH, Joyce and Malcolm Cichy of South Deerfield, Janet of Shelburne, James and Barbara of Charlemont, Jayne and Richard Edwards of Erving, and Jaqueline and her partner Dean Zwelling of Greenfield. She leaves grandchildren Carissa, Amanda, Ryan, Brittany, Justin, Rhianon, Matthew and Aimee. She also leaves great-grandchildren Anna, Samuel, Nathan, John, Amaya, Dana, Alaina, Kaleb, and Kolby. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by her family, her best friends Joanne Tirrell and Marge Potter, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. In memory of her cats Toni and Penny, she requested that charitable donations be made to the Dakin Humane Society, PO Box 6307, Springfield, MA 01101.
