John B. Conant

Calling hours will be held at Wrisley's Funeral Home, Friday, October 17 from 3-7pm. The funeral will be held at St James Episcopal Church, 8 Church Street, Greenfield on Saturday October 18 at 1pm. A private burial will take place at a later date.

John B. Conant of Conway, Massachusetts passed away at the Holyoke Soldiers Home on Saturday October 11, 2014. John was born in Greenfield MA on January 17, 1930, the son of William C. And Erma (Perry) Conant. A graduate of the Deerfield Academy class of 1949, he served in the U.S. Army in an anti aircraft battalion during the Korean War. In 1954 he married Martha A. McSweeney of Brattleboro, Vermont. This year marked their 60th wedding anniversary.


A longtime resident of Conway, John was a former member of the Conway Volunteer Fire Department, the Conway Sportsmans' Club, served on the Board of Health, and was a founding member of the Conway Historical Society. He was employed by Rugg Lumber Company for many years and after his retirement, enjoyed working for Table and Vine in Northampton. His interests included working outdoors and baking for his family and friends.


In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Alexandra of Kingston, Ontario, Timothy of Cambridge, Christopher of Stirling, New Jersey, John II of Shelburne, Justus of Conway and Sophia Regan of Framingham. He was grandfather to 19 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and an uncle to many nieces and nephews.
