Sunderland, MA — Jessie Roslyn (Bartos) Kudukey passed away peacefully on August 31, 2022 at the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Greenfield, Massachusetts. She was 104 years old. Jessie was born in Sunderland, Massachusetts on October 15, 1917, to John Bartos and Stephania Skorupska.

Jessie attended Sunderland schools and Amherst High School. She married Henry Kudukey of Montague on June 15, 1941. They spent their entire married life in Sunderland, where they raised their three children.

Jessie's joy and focus in life was her family. She was a loving generous mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and along with her sisters, created a loving and close-knit supportive family. Jessie loved being a homemaker, but she also held other jobs during her lifetime. She worked at Billings Drugstore in South Deerfield while her husband was stationed at Guam and Bermuda during WWII as a Navy Seabee. Later, she spent some time working as a nursery school assistant in Amherst.

Jessie grew up on the edge of the Connecticut River in Sunderland and survived the great flood of 1936. She instilled in her children the dangers and also the joys of the river. She loved wildflowers, especially forget-me-nots and columbines. She taught her children the names of many varieties of wildflowers that grew in the fields and woods of Sunderland.

Jessie was a lifelong reader. She particularly enjoyed stories of New England as well as nature field guides. Jessie was an outstanding cook. One of Jessie's great joys was cooking for her family, but her cooking was also appreciated by everyone who visited. She will particularly be remembered for her legendary Christmas Eve feasts.

Jessie was predeceased by her husband Henry, her sisters Helen Petroski, Elizabeth Bandalevich, Marion Gromaski, Sophie Petroski, and Felicia Baronas.

Jessie leaves behind her daughter Linda Murphy, her husband Peter, their daughter Carrie Murphy, and great granddaughter Lola Russell. She leaves her son John Kudukey, his wife Barbara, and their two sons Christopher and Michael, his wife Miranda, and great granddaughters Aiyra and Eden Kudukey. She also leaves her daughter Barbara Williams, her husband Robert, their two daughters Amy Williams, her husband Anthony Johnson, and Jennifer Rudnick, her husband Burt and great grandson Henry Rudnick.

Our family would like to acknowledge and offer our heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the wonderful care that Jessie received during her stay.
