Herbert L. Sanderson Sr

Calling hours at Wrisley funeral home Monday June 18th from 4 to 7pm.. Funeral services on Tuesday June 19th, 9:15am from the Wrisley Funeral Home followed by a requiem mass at 10:00am in the Holy Name of Jesus church. Burial will follow with military honors in Holy Name of Jesus cemetery.

Herbert L. Sanderson Sr. 81, of South Deerfield, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening in Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

 

He was born in Conway March 10, 1931, the son of Harold and Irene Peabody Sanderson. Herbert was educated in Deerfield schools. Graduated from Deerfield High School in the class of 1948. He later entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War.

 

He married the former Marjorie Petroski in Holy Name of Jesus church in 1955 by Father Joseph Allen. All their married life was in South Deerfield.

 

Herbert was a retired vice-president of manufacturing at Mohawk Plastics. Prior to that, he was plant manager at Oxford Pickle Company for several years. A member of Holy Name of Jesus church, former president of the parish committee, and was active in many church affairs. He was a former commander of V.F.W. Post 3295, a member of the Deerfield school committee, a former Deerfield Selectman, and a corporator for Greenfield Savings Bank. He was a member of the South Deerfield Polish American Club and a former coach and umpire of little league baseball. Herb was an avid sports fan and attended many local sporting events.

 

Besides his wife Marjorie, he leaves on son Herbert Sanderson Jr. of Conway, two daughters Lori Sanderson of Hampton, NH and Karen Sanderson of South Deerfield, one brother Harold Sanderson Jr. of Zephyrhills, FL., one sister Hazel Hardaker of Belchertown, and several nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his 7 grandchildren; Erica, Sara, Jacob, Emily, Amanda, Jack, and Sam.

 

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:15am from the Wrisley Funeral Home followed by a requiem mass at 10:00am in the Holy Name of Jesus church celebrated by Rev. Randolph Calvo. Pastor burial will follow with military honors in Holy Name of Jesus cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 4 to 7pm
