Sunderland-
Helen M. Telega,94, of 375 Hadley
Road, Sunderland,
died peacefully at Elaine at Hadley on Wednesday, July 3rd. Helen was born
on August 14, 1918 in Sunderland to Margaret
(Necta) and George Korpita. She was
married in 1938 to Michael Peter Telega and lived all of her married
life in Sunderland. He
predeceased her in 2004.
She and Mike
were life-time farmers who ran the Sunnybrook Farm and also owned and operated
the Silver Lane Package Store. She was a member of the Sunderland Grange and
was was very active in the Holy Ghost Ukrainian
Church in South
Deerfield for all her
married life.
Survivors
include her son, Peter Telega and his wife Bonnie of South Deerfield; her
daughter, Donna Casey and her husband Patrick, of Sunderland and daughter,
Patricia Robinson and her husband Sanford, also of Sunderland.
She also leaves six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren,and 19
great-grandchildren. She was predeceased byher daughter, Rebecca Telega Powers
in 2003, and by one brother and three sisters.
Helen as a
warm , caring and generous spirit. She loved her family, especially her
grand-children and great-grandchildren , and she cooked Hungarian and Ukrainian dishes at numerous family
gatherings. She avidly followed the Red Sox games until very
near her death.
There will
be calling hour on Monday , July 8th,
at 9:00AM at the Wrisley Funeral Home, Sugarloaf Street, South Deerfield,
and a Liturgy at 10:00AM in Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church, followed by burial
in the
Holy Ghost Cemetery in Whately.
In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made in Helen’s name to the Renovation Fund
of the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, Sugarloaf Street,South
Deerfield, Mass.
