George Howe Kennedy Sr

Sunderland - George Howe Kennedy Sr died peacefully Wednesday June 6, 2018 in Greenfield with his sons at his side. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth in 2002.

He was born in Hartford, CT on April 28, 1936 to Carlos Howe and Jeannette Hart Kennedy. He grew up in Whately, and graduated from Northampton High. He

was a helicopter crew chief in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Stockbridge School of Agriculture and worked for the State as the Farm Administrator at the Wrentham State School and retired in 1979. He moved back to Whately where he raised his family and operated a small farm as well as worked for Agway of Northampton, Rocky’s Hardware of Hadley and The Vac Store in Hadley.

His biggest passion was his family. He attended numerous sporting events and dance performances to watch his grandchildren. He was always there to help his sons with home renovation projects and even baked Christmas cookies for his family and friends.

His love of family was also demonstrated through his help in initiating the Kennedy family reunions which began in the early 1970s and continues today instilling that value down thru the generations.

He spent numerous hours tinkering with small engines in his workshop. He developed a passion for old small tractors. He amassed a large collection of vintage Baird Beaver Garden Tractors. He spent many hours traveling the North East in search of these

old machines and showing his off at small engine shows. He was a member of several tractor clubs and had many great friends that shared his hobby.

George is survived by his immediate family George and Sharon of Shelburne, William and MaryBeth of Amherst and Steven of Sunderland. George was also a loving grandfather to Alexander, Randy, Joshua and Hannah.
