Frances I. “Cookie” Hirst

Frances I. “Cookie” Hirst age 70 of Dell Street, Turners Falls died unexpectedly early Sunday morning December 17, 2017 in Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

Cookie was born in Chicopee on April 4, 1947; she was the daughter of Francis and Veronica “Neca” (Zukowski) Shlosser. She was educated in local schools and graduated from Frontier Regional High School, class of 1965. She attended Westfield State College and graduated from Franklin County Hospital School of Radiology.


Early in her career, Cookie worked as a Registered X-Ray Technician at Franklin County Hospital and Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. In 1982, she decided to become a “stay at home” Mom and started a new career as a hand crafter; she spent the next 35 years selling her hand made creations at craft shows locally and all over New England.

Cookie was devoted to family and friends; she was always organizing and working to keep everyone in contact with each other.


Cookie will be remembered to all who knew her as a vibrant, caring, nurturing and positive woman who brightened the lives of all she touched.


Cookie was predeceased by her parents and infant twin daughters, Melinda Sue and Sarah Jean. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, J. Lincoln Hirst II, her daughter Veronica I. Hirst of Greenfield, her son Paul M. Hirst and his spouse Diah Douglas of Bedford, MA. Cookie had two grandsons Theodore Lincoln and Otis Grant Lennox whom she adored. Cookie is also survived by her brother Jimmy Shlosser and his wife Judy of Miami, OK.


No services are planned at this time. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to a charity of choice.
