SOUTH DEERFIELD, MA — With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Edna Cynthia (Baird) Szymanski, 94, wife of the late John Szymanski, who died peacefully on May 14, 2021. Edna was born in Montague on March 12, 1927, the daughter of the late James F. Baird and Edna Loiselle (Russell) Baird, living in Turners Falls until her marriage to her husband of 67 years. Edna worked for the University of Massachusetts as a supervisor in the Food Services Department for over 25 years.

Spending time with family and working in her yard and many gardens were her pastimes. She was a 4-H leader when her girls were young; a member of the South Deerfield Garden Club; and with a neighbor initiated the July 4th flags on Main Street. John and Edna were active parishioners of Holy Family Church and worked on the holiday church fair fundraiser for many years.

She is survived by her two daughters: Nancy (Edward) Shyloski of Old Lyme, CT and Jo-Ann (Michael) Denehy of Whately, MA; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be on Wednesday (05/19/2021) at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Wrisley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Church Renovation Fund, 29 Sugarloaf Street, South Deerfield, MA 01373.
