Sunderland- Edna M. Ahearn,94,
of 38 School Street , Sunderland, died Monday afternoon in Buckley Healthcare
Center in Greenfield. She was born in
Florence, March 19,1920, the daughter of William G. and Mary (Hanrahan) Munks.
She was educated in Northampton schools and graduated from Northampton High
School in 1937. She attended W.H. McCarthy Business College. She was later
married to William J. Ahearn and they
made their home in Sunderland. He predeceased her on Nov.3,1991.
Edna was employed for 25 years as a
telephone operator at the former Farren Memorial Hospital. She was a 25 year
member of the Whately Grange, Charter Member of the Farren Guild, and Past
President of the Ladies Guild of the
former St. James Church. At present she was
a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church in South Deerfield.
Edna is survived by three sons;
Richard E. Ahearn and his wife Geraldine of Greenfield, Michael P. Ahearn, and
his wife Carol of Sunderland and Robert T. Ahearn and his wife Mary Ellen of
Another son, William James predeceased her. Also survived by two
daughters; Mary Ahearn of Sunderland and Ann Barstow and her husband Steven of
Hadley. A daughter-in-law June Ahearn of Colrain, 12 grandchildren and 5
great-grand children, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday, Aug.14th at 11;00AM in Holy Name of Jesus Church with a
Requiem Mass celebrated by Rev. Randolph
Calvo, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Northampton.
Calling hours at the Wrisley Funeral Home Chapel will be Thursday morning at
9:00AM until the time of the Mass.
