Dorothy Laura Kostecki 93,
passed away on May 31, 2015 at the Center for Extended Care at Amherst, with family by
her side. Dorothy, born March 26, 1922
in Greenfield MA, moved to South Deerfield MA in her
teens, and stayed there to raise her family.
Dorothy graduated from Deerfield High and following graduation, Dorothy
worked in “the boot factory,” Hillside Plastics and Russo Woodworking. Dorothy and her husband, Roger L. Kostecki
were married on August 2nd 1941 and had three children. Thomas Kostecki, Robert Kostecki and Linda
(Kostecki) Merritt.
Dorothy’s favorite activities
included playing scrabble, cribbage, and rummy as well as the penny games at
the Senior Center
in South Deerfield. Dorothy also spent her time watching the Game
Show Network. Dorothy enjoyed hosting
family holiday gatherings at the West St. homestead and enjoyed making
different foods for her family, including, pierogis, lemon meringue pie,
kielbasa with hard boiled eggs and babka bread, and a ham and cheese spread on
Ritz crackers. While Dorothy spent her
last year on this earth at the Center for Extended Care at Amherst, she had weekly visits from her
daughter, Linda and monthly visits from her son Bob. Linda and Bob were able to brighten her day
and bring the comforts of home, which Dorothy enjoyed immensely.
Dorothy was pre deceased by
her son Thomas Kostecki and husband Roger Kostecki. Dorothy leaves behind her son Robert Kostecki
and his wife Carol Kostecki of Hudson NH and daughter Linda Merritt of Greenfield, MA. Her seven grandchildren, Lisa McColgan and
husband Pat, Steve Kostecki and wife Amy, Aaron Kostecki, Rachael Kostecki
Kelly, Kate Kostecki Cervenka and husband Bob, Laura Merritt and Andrew
Merritt. As well as her 10 great
grandchildren, Lance and Ben McColgan, Leah and Seth Kostecki, Bryna and Wynne
Kelly, Elijah Kostecki, Peyton and Cora Cervenka, and Layla-Ann Thompson.
Dorothy’s family would like
to thank the center for Extended Care at Amherst,
and the Cooley Dickinson Hospital VNA Hospice for their remarkable care and
understanding for Dorothy before her passing. In lieu of flowers, donations may
be made to Hospice of Cooley Dickinson or Holy Family Parish in South Deerfield
in honor of Dorothy Kostecki.
Calling hours will be held
Wednesday, June 3rd, from 5-7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held
Thursday, June 4th, at 9:15AM from the Wrisley Funeral Home, South Deerfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian
Burial
at 10:00AM in Holy Family Church, South Deerfield.
Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
