South Deerfield - Donald Carl Sadoski, 72, of 4 Tina Drive, So. Deerfield, died at his home, Monday, March 11, 2013 in the love of his family. He was born on April 7, 1940 in Turners Falls, the twin son of Charles Sadoski and Elizabeth (Klinker) Sadoski.
Donald attended Whately schools and Smith Vocational School in Northampton. He was an outstanding athlete in basketball, baseball and soccer. He led his teams to winning many titles. Donald was married to Norma Jean Osgood on October 28, 1961 at Saint Mary’s in Haydenville.
He worked at the Northampton State Hospital for 31 years, until its closing in 1992. Aside from this, he and his brother David painted many homes in the local area. Don loved the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman along with his son and grandson. He taught both of them the terrain of the Deerfield Mountain where they took many deer, including a 9 pt. buck by Kyle. They enjoyed attending the local turkey shoots and challenging one another in these sports.
Don lived his life by the seasons. He enjoyed raising a vegetable garden and supplying his family and friends with his produce. He looked forward to his daily rides to watch animals and nature unfold. He was a simple man with a huge heart and had appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. Don was an avid sports fan of the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots and the Connecticut girls’ basketball team.
Donald served in the National Guard and was a lifetime member of the Polish American Citizens Club in So. Deerfield and St. Stan’s in Turners Falls.
Survivors include his wife Norma of Goshen, his daughter Lisa Holabird and her husband Terry of Dummerston, VT., a son Robert Sadoski of So. Deerfield, his grandson Kyle Sadoski of So. Deerfield and his brother, Gerald Sadoski of Whately. He also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Charles, his daughter Deborah (Sadoski) Graves in October 1993 and his twin brother David Sadoski in May of 1999.
Calling hours will be held at the Wrisley Funeral Home in So. Deerfield, Thursday, March 14th from 4 to 6pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11am at the Wrisley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fr. Philippe Roux officiating. A burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Don’s name may be made to the Polish American Citizens Club, 46 South Main St., So. Deerfield, MA, 01373.
