Donald A. Mayberry

Memphis, Tenn. – Donald A. Mayberry, 94, of 6580 Poplar Ave., Memphis, formerly of Ward Ave., South Deerfield, MA, died Wednesday morning, January 22, 2014 in Bright Glade Nursing Facility in Memphis.

 

He was born in Portsmouth, NH, November 10, 1919, the son of Albert and Elsie (Corbin) Mayberry. He was educated in Greenfield schools and graduated from Greenfield High School, class of 1937.

 

Donald went to work for Barrett & Baker for five years. He married Violet Manson. In the early part of their married life in Greenfield, Donald entered the U.S. Coast Guard and served in WW II. After the service, he went to work at Lunt Silversmith in Greenfield as a polisher, retiring after 35 years of service. In 1971, Donald moved to South Deerfield. His wife Violet predeceased him in 1991.

 

He is survived by nieces & nephews, one of whom is Deb Guscette who cared for him in Tennessee. His sister Mildred Kemp predeceased him.

 

A graveside service will take place in the spring at Brookside Cemetery, South Deerfield with a date and time to be announced. There are no calling hours. Donations in his memory can be made to the South Deerfield Emergency Vehicle Fund, Greenfield Road, South Deerfield, MA 01373.
