Charles “Charlie” Kolakoski

At Charlie’s request, there are no services. There will be a celebration of life reception at the South Deerfield Congregational Church/Rohrs Hall on Saturday May 20, 2017 from 11am – 2pm

South Deerfield – Charles “Charlie” Kolakoski of North Hillside Road, 84, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at Buckley Healthcare Center, after a period of declining health.

Born and raised in South Deerfield, MA to Anthony and Stella (Sanicki) Kolakoski. He was educated in South Deerfield schools and left school at an early age to work on his family dairy farm. He later received his plumbing license and went to work for Clarence C. Sanders in Sunderland for many years before going to work for Jankowski/Baranoski Plumbing and Heating. He later worked for Baranoski Plumbing and Heating, Inc. before retiring in 1995.


Charlie’s passion was puttering around in his garage and watching his vegetable garden grow. Always, with a cigar.


He married Elsie Kennedy October 1, 1955 at St. Joseph’s Church in Shelburne Falls, MA. All of their married life was spent in South Deerfield.


He is pre-deceased by his parents Anthony and Stella. Five brothers, Eddy, Joe, Walter, Chet and Tony Kolakoski. Two sisters, Sophie (Kolakoski) Celatka and Tess (Kolakoski) Martin.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Elsie, his only son Steve and his wife Jini (Stokarski) Kolakoski. Two grandson’s Mike Kolakoski and his fiancée Sara Walsh and Kevin Kolakoski and his fiancée Kayla Santos, several nieces and nephews all of South Deerfield.


The family would like to thank Buckley Healthcare Center and Hospice of Franklin County for their exceptional care and keeping him comfortable during his last days with us.

Memorial contributions may be made to the South Deerfield Firefighter’s Association, 84 Greenfield Road, South Deerfield or to Hospice of Franklin County, 329 Conway St. Suite 2, Greenfield, MA.
