SOUTH DEERFIELD – Alice Sophie (Wozniak) Zabka, 92,
passed away peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Center for Extended
Care in Amherst. Born February 27, 1924,
in South Deerfield, MA to Victoria (Kolinko) and John Wozniak.
Alice attended Deerfield
High School. She married Stanley Zabka
on October 29, 1943. They lived their
entire lives in South Deerfield.
Alice was predeceased by
her husband Stanley in 1976, her beloved son Sonny in 1954, her sister’s Anne
Wandeloski, Rose Jakobek, and brother Chester Wozniak.
She leaves her daughter’s
Nancy Zabka of South Deerfield, Arlene Skorupski and her husband Henry (Sonny) of
Hatfield, grandson Brian Skorupski and his fiancée Kim Mosio of South
Deerfield. She is also survived by her
sisters Irene Redmond, Josephine Mleczko, brother-in-law Chester Mleczko,
brother-in-law Joseph Zabko, and several nieces and nephews.
After raising her
children, she worked at Nourse Farm, Frontier Pharmacy, The Candlelight
Restaurant, and Yankee Candle. She
enjoyed bingo, playing cards, polka dancing, baking cookies, vacationing at
Hampton Beach and family outings at Laurel Lake and was a Boston Red Sox fan.
She was a member of the
Holy Family Church in South Deerfield where she was an honorary member of the
Rosary Confraternity and a member of the St. Anne’s Sodality Rosary
Confraternity where she was a past president.
She was also a Eucharistic Minister for several years.
Calling hours will be
Wednesday, February 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Wrisley Funeral Home in South
Deerfield. The St. Anne’s Sodality
Rosary Confraternity will recite the rosary at 6 p.m. The funeral will be held Thursday, February
23 at 9:15 a.m. at the Wrisley Funeral Home followed by a Liturgy of Christian
Burial at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church.
Graveside services will be held in the spring.
